Collingwood Mural – Sunset Chronicles

This 100 foot long mural: “Sunset Chronicles: Collingwood’s Journey by Rail, Sea, and Ski” was delivered by Future Day Artists in September in time to be a feature for Collingwood’s Art Crawl 2023.

Some details about this mural:

  • It was commissioned by the Town of Collingwood in partnership with Streetcar Developments and the Collingwood Museum.
  • It’s 100 feet long and 8 feet high so hard to absorb all in one glance!
  • This mural is about the history of Collingwood, in particular the railway which transformed a small fishing village called Hen and Chickens Harbour into a major port on the Great Lakes. This mural commemorates 150 years of the railway and the museum building that was built 25 years ago to look like the 1873 station.
  • The children who attended the museum camps this summer participated by colouring in Sandra’s illustrations of hens and chickens dressed in period costumes or involved in fun activities. These fun cartoon chicks are the parade along the bottom of the mural.
  • Digitizing our sketches and their colourings represented an ongoing commitment to community involvement in this art project.
