Ontario Culture Days is a 3 week celebration of arts and culture experiences outdoors, indoors and online. https://onculturedays.ca/festival-2023/
Rebecca Remme has been chosen as one of 10 artists and 10 writers to have work displayed as temporary signs along the Beachway in Burlington from September 22 to October 15th 2023. Her painting Dragonfly Moon has been incorporated into a poster for the event.
“Dragonfly Moon is a surrealistic painting of a crescent moon rising from the waves, which is simultaneously a viking longship with a dragon’s head and dragonfly wings. One legend of dragonfly tells that it was once a dragon, a master of magic and illusion, who was tricked into taking the form of the insect we know today as dragonfly. Water represents the subconscious and emotions among other things. The moon can represent feminine wisdom, hidden forces, and magic. The longship painted here reminds me of a souvenir my Norwegian grandfather gave me. Feminine wisdom, magic, and a journey of transformation.
I intended to paint something new inspired by Burlington Beach for this call, but circled and simplified back into ancestry and myths, to a dreamlike, childlike twilight scene.”
The project will be installed for the duration of Culture Days (September 22 – October 15) along the Beachway Park multi-use path, near the Pump House and playground.
