On Saturday November 23 a new mural was unveiled at The Citadel: Ross Centre for Dance. Entitled “Moving Elevation”, the mural was designed by Future Day and made possible with support from the City of Toronto (Mural and Street Art Program).
Inspired by Citadel + Compagnie’s vision to elevate Toronto dance and community, the mural makes visible the expressive power and beauty of dance, connecting what happens inside The Citadel to its outside community.
The mural features the vibrant work of artists Eden Watt and Rebecca Remme of Future Day, with contributions from Citadel Dance Program students Quintavia Brideau, Lydia Elgsaether-Fox, and Ava Smirknob, who were invited to create drawings of their local community of Regent Park.
This project involved designing panels for the alleyway on the side of their building which is a constant victim of graffiti.
The Citadel is a dance company in Toronto near Parliament and Dundas. The title suggestion came from C+C’s vision statement to elevate Toronto dance and community and the feeling that the mural itself moves so well and also moves its viewer emotionally, evoking pure joy. Through its creation, curation and cultivation of contemporary dance, Citadel + Compagnie’s mission is to make a significant and lasting contribution to dance in Canada.” (excerpt from https://www.citadelcie.com ).
