Mural at the Citadel + Compagnie in Toronto

The client has named this mural “Moving Elevation”. They are a dance company in Toronto near Parliament and Dundas. The title suggestion came from C+C’s vision statement to elevate Toronto dance and community. They feel the mural itself moves so well and also moves its viewer emotionally, evoking pure joy.

This project involved designing panels for the alleyway on the side of their building which is a constant victim of graffiti.

Rebecca and I started working on this project in Spring of 2024.

This was commissioned by the Citadel + Compagnie with a grant from the City of Toronto. “Citadel + Compagnie is a dance organization with its home, The Citadel: Ross Centre for Dance, embedded within the Regent Park community of downtown Toronto. Through its creation, curation and cultivation of contemporary dance, Citadel + Compagnie’s mission is to make a significant and lasting contribution to dance in Canada.” (excerpt from https://www.citadelcie.com ).

In addition to their primary mission as a dance organization, they provide classes to children in the community and they were invited to contribute to the mural by creating images of their community. Their artwork was digitized and transformed to be the backdrop for some of the panels in the dance sequences.

Work was completed in October 2024. The design was created digitally and printed onto alupanels for installation at the wall.
